No, not the TV show. Often, due to increased periods of stress with no respite, our family will play some sort of game, such as Monopoly or Trivial Pursuit, to relieve the stresses each of us encounter throughout the day. It would start soundly with a game of Trivial Pursuit at around 7:00, when my boredom overtakes me and I don’t feel like doing any sort of homework yet. For the most part it proceeds swimmingly and we usually disband after about an hour of being within close proximity to each other.
Sometimes however, It turns into a blood-frenzy. Tempers flare, arguments return and old wounds worm their way into our otherwise perfect night. Of course, this is only if the game happens to be trivia based, at any other point I’m usually the first one to simmer down. If its any other genre of game besides trivia, we retain a sense of dignity and sportsmanship. I usually think of game night as a fun little get together, and it usually is, except for THOSE nights. For example, on long car rides, the whole family would become severely agitated by this extremely tedious road trip, so I would settle the tension with my own brand of medicine, the Alphabet Sign Game, which would usually take the wind out of the stress sails for a time
Family game night is usually a very effective stress reliever in my family and it becomes a non-violent path with my family quells their toils from the previous work day. My parents might not feel the same way, but I think that family game night is something to fight for, because it brings our family together, for the most part, at least.
