Four Score and Seven Years ago, I wrote a speech for my Speech Class. It had to be some sort of welcoming speech, at least in my case, and I provided a very strange one indeed. The others in my class created rather straitlaced and cold pieces of work, but I made mine a fantasy based comedy with a pinch of technopunk added in for a bit of spice. I feel as though mine was the most remembered, just because it made everyone laugh.
My speech was about a drug rehabilitation sanctuary that was running some less than legal human trafficking and augmentation operations. This might not sound funny, but I said the speech was funny, not the concept. The humor stems from the owner’s rather bumbling attempts to hide the fact that he’s running an illegal super-soldier program. This is where the fantasy part plays in. Why do we have an illegal program running under this innocent looking complex? It gives the story a much more expanded feel to it, like there could be more parts to it, and thats what I loved about it.
This speech helped to further my own artistic abilities concerning the lingual arts, as well as increasing my general speaking capabilities. The speeches elements belay a masterful sense of atmosphere, not to toot my own horn, as well as a firm grasp on the english language. That’s why I feel that it’s perfect for these kinds of papers which stress communicative ability, but the artistic value is a nice plus as well, which I think rounds the square-like box of communication.
